Using Textures from Nature in Your Artwork

Texture is vital in art. Let's look at different textures for inspiration.

Incorporate textures from nature into an artwork, not only for their visual and tactile qualities but also to infuse your piece with layers of meaning, connect viewers to the natural world and convey emotions, narratives, and cultural or environmental messages.

Varieties of Texture Found in Nature

Textures Can Convey Meaning

Artists add Texture Through the Materials They Choose

Try using the prompts “Interconnected” and/or “Disconnected” to add meaning to a work off art with a focus on texture as an artistic element and strategy.

Interconnected: united, in relation to something else, related, dependent on another, unified, common aims or goals, shared nature (Word Hippo)

Disconnected: Consisting of separate parts, lacking a logical sequence or connection, different in nature, isolated, not fixed, cut off (Word Hippo)

Consider exploring how nature operates as an intricate web of interconnections where each element, no matter how small, contributes to the larger whole. Multiple elements within Nature interact and depend on each other for survival and sustainability.

Disruptions and disturbances in natural systems create instances of disconnection or imbalance, impacting the interconnected relationships among species and ecosystems. Various human-induced and natural disruptions can lead to disconnections within ecosystems, impacting the intricate balance and relationships among species and their environments.

Do you choose a word as a guide for the new year?

My word is “interconnected” I feel the need to find more ways to keep all of the important parts of my life interconnected and to disconnect the things that do not add to my life?

What do you need this year?

I would love to know what you think.
